Dear Treasure Valley Educators,
Opera Idaho invites you and your students to enjoy a performance of She Never Lost a Passenger: the story of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad as part of our educational outreach program introducing opera to youth in our community. To make this performance possible, Opera Idaho would like to visit your school during our special tour.
The performances are geared towards grades K-6. The cost is FREE and will run approximately 50 minutes, complete with a question and answer session following the performance. Your school will also be provided with a study guide containing information and activities in preparation for our visit.
We would also need two (2) to four (4) kids per school to sing some spirituals that are part of the opera. We would provide the music ahead of time. We’d prefer if they have it memorized, but the children can use the scores if needed.
Opera Idaho will also be presenting She Never Lost a Passenger, alongside Opera Idaho’s Children’s Choruses production of Brundibar, on Thursday, April 16, at The Egyptian Theatre. We would like to invite two (2) children from each school to join us for the staged performance (can be part of the same kids participating during the tour). All they would need is permission from the school and their parents for one rehearsal prior to the performance, to be comfortable being on stage and have the music memorized. This rehearsal would take place at The Egyptian Theatre on April 15, 7:00pm.
Tour Dates: April 13-17 & 20-24, 2015
Times: 10:30am and 1:00pm daily, Monday-Friday
Please fill out the form below if you are interested in having us come to your school. Registration will be open through Sunday, April 22. Please note there are only 20 performance slots available and are unable to meet every request. You will be notified of our selections no later than April 1, 2015.
